Adding a Picture Marker to our Global Map

Post your best catches, fishing spots, fishing shops or any other image & location on our global map of marker. You can then search to see where the fish are when you plan that next fishing trip.

To add a marker you'll need to register on the site first. The next thing to do is click on the USER MENU>View Profile, on this page select the Add Marker tab.

Next, this tab has all the information you can insert to add the image.

Fill out the form, giving a title, description and other information about the fish. Next you will need to specify the location where the marker will appear on in the world (note, you don't need to supply the longitude and latitude - unless you already know the geo coordinates). We have provided a access to a geocoding facility, so you can easily find where you caught that fish.

First type in a location as you would expect to find it in Google Maps e.g. a town Name and country, then click OK this will take you to the area and place a draggable marker on this position. Then drag this marker to the exact position you want which which you caught the fish (tip use the zooming facility and the satelite imagery to locate the precise position where you caught your fish).

Next, select an image to add to the marker, this image will appear when the button is clicked.

Finding Markers, Viewing, moving and zooming on the map

You can use search for new fishing spots on the main map or look on the map to see what fish have been recently caught in a particular area -- perfect for planning that next fishing trip.

Go to the home page, the map here can be searched for fish types or fishing spot markers.

Enter a fish type you are interested in querying. The drop down menu will make suggestions as you type. Press return or the "Find Fishing Spots" button to initiate the search. The markers will appear on the map, zoom in to your area of interest to review these markers. Clicking on a marker will display the image and information associated with this and the marker.

The maps are standard Google Map interfaces, you can either view the map as a standard map, satellite image or hybrid of both, you may find it easier to find your fishing spots on the satellite map when you are zoomed in but the standard map will display faster. You may double-click to zoom into a particular region (right and left mouse buttons zoom in and out respectively) or use the sliding controls on the left of the map.

Adding Video

Once registered on the User Menu you will be able to select the Video option. Once selected, you will be able to add YouTube videos or videos hosted on most other video hosting sites. Simply click on the Add Video option and paste in the video URL (this is taken from the browser address bar when in YouTube). All the meta-data will be imported, edit this as necessary and post it.  Paying customers will be able to directly upload videos onto the Universal Angler site without having to upload them onto YouTube first.
